Ukraine has completed repairs to the high-voltage line connecting the country with Moldova, adding 500 MW of capacity to stabilize the energy supply in the South.
This was announced by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal.
It is noted that Shmyhal held a meeting of the Headquarters, at which they analyzed the results of the work of energy companies for the week and determined priorities for the coming days. He stressed the need to accelerate the pace of restoring electricity and heat supply due to the severe frosts that have returned to Ukraine.
Today, February 1, at 2 am, the repair of the high-voltage line connecting Ukraine with Moldova was completed.
“This adds 500 MW of capacity to stabilize the energy supply of the South,” Shmyhal said.
The government is increasing the pace of implementation of cogeneration plants. Yesterday, a 1.5 MW plant was put into operation in the Kyiv region, and another 1 MW is expected to be launched tomorrow. In January alone, about 4.5 MW of capacity was added in the Kyiv region.
In parallel, the government is working to simplify the conditions for deploying its own generation. To this end, the “5-7-9%” program has been expanded, and now loan funds can also be used to purchase cogeneration units. The maximum amount of the investment loan has been increased from UAH 150 million to UAH 250 million.
The “SvitloDIM” program has also been launched, which provides assistance of UAH 100,000 to UAH 300,000 to co-owners of apartment buildings for the purchase of generators, batteries, inverters, solar panels, and other equipment. UAH 800 million has been allocated for the first stage, the pilot project has been launched in Kyiv and Kyiv region, and the program will later be scaled up to other regions.
“We continue coordination to strengthen the energy sustainability of the state,” added Denys Shmyhal.
It is worth adding that a system failure occurred on high-voltage lines in Ukraine , which led to cascading power outages in 7 regions. As of the evening of January 31, power supply was restored in all regions , and the power system is returning to its planned operating schedules.
In particular, in Kyiv, due to a power outage in the metro, train traffic and escalators were temporarily suspended . In addition, there is currently no water supply in all districts of Kyiv due to a power outage . Later, it became known that traffic was restored on all lines of the metro in Kyiv . The interval of movement is 6 minutes.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal stated that on January 31, a technological disruption occurred between the power systems of Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine, with a simultaneous power outage. This caused a cascading power outage .
