Rohingya camp in Bangladesh.

The UNHCR says in a new press release that the Government of Norway has contributed 1m$ to support Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh.

UNHCR said the funds will help cover humanitarian assistance and protection services. It said nearly 1.2 million Rohingya refugees live in Bangladesh.

The contribution is part of UNHCR’s 2025–2026 support to its global budget. UNHCR said falling humanitarian funding in 2025 has already reduced some essential services.

UNHCR Representative Ivo Freijsen said the funding will support education, skills development and livelihoods. He said it aims to strengthen self-reliance until voluntary return to Myanmar is possible.

Norway’s ambassador to Bangladesh, Håkon Arald Gulbrandsen, said Norway backs rights-based refugee protection. UNHCR said Norway has provided over 55.2m$ in core support since 2017, and supports programmes like SAFE+2.
