When the task at hand is highly complex, EIG Australia is at its most confident. Proudly Australian, the company began life as a local electrical contractor in 2010. Since then, EIG has evolved into a specialist provider of fuel, electrical, and mechanical infrastructure for both the defence and resources sectors.

“Our team delivers high‑compliance projects ranging from hazardous‑area electrical upgrades to large‑scale fuel and fluid transfer systems,” begins Managing Director Daniel Johnson. “The diverse client base we have built includes the Australian Defence Force, as well as major mining and industrial clients. Today, as part of the Duratec Group, we continue to strengthen sovereign capability while contributing to the energy resilience of both defence bases and Australia’s resources industry.”

Tailored Total Packages

EIG takes pride in exceeding client expectations by providing tailored total packages. The company’s comprehensive range of services includes planning, design, construction, and ongoing maintenance. On every project, close collaboration is a priority, with EIG determined to fully understand and satisfy all client requirements. EIG Australia

“Our unique strength lies in our ability to integrate fuel, electrical and mechanical expertise into a single, cohesive delivery model,” Daniel says. “This makes us one of the few contractors capable of handling the full lifecycle of complex hydrocarbon projects for both Defence and major resource operators.

“Whether it’s a naval fuel system upgrade or infrastructure at a mining or port facility, clients benefit from consistent quality, reduced interfaces and a team experienced in delivering in high‑risk, high‑regulation environments.
“Our culture reinforces that capability. We employ people who thrive under pressure, value precision and understand the expectations of sectors where reliability is essential.”

As Daniel suggests, EIG benefits from a team of experts committed to delivering quality infrastructure solutions. An unrivalled standard of workmanship within the group ensures that every project is completed to a reliably high level of excellence, giving clients confidence and peace of mind.

“We recruit people who bring both technical skill and the mindset required for sensitive, high‑risk environments,” Daniel explains. “Defence and resources work demands attention to detail, strong safety commitment and the ability to operate confidently in hazardous‑area conditions.

“Once onboard, staff receive continuous development across electrical and mechanical systems, hydrocarbon handling, high‑voltage capability, commissioning and compliance training relevant to both the defence and mining industries. Exposure to a diverse mix of projects, from naval bases to major mining operations, allows our people to grow quickly while contributing meaningful value to our clients.”

Overcoming Challenges

The consistency provided by EIG’s team has helped the organisation overcome numerous challenges over the years. For instance, early on, the company needed to quickly establish credibility in the defence sector – a space hallmarked by strict compliance and assurance requirements.

At the same time, EIG was looking to expand its capability to meet the needs of Western Australia’s resource sector. The endeavour required significant investment in skilled labour, equipment, and internal systems.

EIG Australia“Navigating these two demanding markets in parallel, each with its own regulatory, technical, and workforce pressures, required strategic planning and a strong commitment to quality and safety,” Daniel reports. “We built our defence footprint by delivering reliably under established primes, gradually earning trust through consistent performance.

“In the resources sector, we focused on strengthening our technical capability and expanding into mechanical and hydrocarbon systems, allowing us to service major miners, contractors, and port authorities with the same level of rigour we apply to defence projects.

“This combined approach positioned us as a versatile contractor able to meet the needs of two highly regulated industries. Our internal culture, centred on accountability, problem‑solving, and adaptability, ensured we could handle the complexity and scale required across both sectors.”

EIG Australia in Action

There are many examples of the thriving organisation that EIG has become today. The company continues to deliver complex projects across Australia, solidifying its reputation in the process.

One significant recent project for EIG was a major fuel facility upgrade for F44 aviation fuel (JP-5) in the defence sector. The project involved upgrading all fuel pumps, fuel piping, and over-water wharf fuel coping points, in addition to the supply and installation of new tanks.

One of the most difficult aspects of the project was the new installation of the electrical PLC/SCADA CITECT system. With the help of its expert team, EIG enabled seamless installation with minimal disruption to the existing system.

The company also introduced underground piping with cathodic protection to ensure that the entire fuel facility was operating safely and efficiently. High-volume filter coalescers were another crucial component of the project executed by EIG with precision.

Like any EIG project, key to success in the fuel facility upgrade was close collaboration with the client – in this case, the Australian Defence Force. Right through to testing and commissioning of the entire fuel facility, EIG’s team of specialists completed the project on-time, in-budget, and to the highest standard.

Scaling Capability

Australia’s defence and resources capabilities largely rely on infrastructure that operates behind the scenes – pipelines, electrical systems and fuel networks that keep operations running safely and efficiently. For over a decade, EIG has delivered and maintained these systems across both sectors, contributing to national readiness, operational continuity and sovereign capability.

“Our forward strategy focuses on scaling our capability across defence and expanding our role in national resources and energy infrastructure,” Daniel declares. “Backed by Duratec, we are positioned to deliver larger and more complex projects, enhance our engineering and design capacity, and support modernisation initiatives across both sectors. We are also committed to building a defence‑ and industry‑ready workforce, strengthening internal systems, and continuing to play a role in Australia’s broader energy transition and infrastructure resilience.”
