Hospice Malta is investing in the training of its employees and professionals through European funds.

The Minister for European Funds and the Implementation of the Electoral Programme, Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi, visited Hospice Malta where he met with the organisation’s management and staff to see firsthand how European funds are supporting training initiatives and professional development in the field of palliative care.

This project, financed under the Erasmus+ programme, aims to further strengthen the competencies and capacity of Hospice Malta’s workforce so that the organisation can continue to offer high-quality palliative care services to patients and their families.

Through this project, Hospice Malta professionals took part in job shadowing experiences in Aachen, Germany, and in Galway, Ireland. These experiences allowed participants to observe best practices, innovative approaches, and advanced service models in palliative care.

Minister Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi remarked that investment in learning and professional development of this kind is crucial for organisations such as Hospice Malta to continue strengthening their important role within the national health system.

The project also includes three “train-the-trainer” sessions, through which the knowledge and experience gained abroad are being shared with other members of staff, ensuring that the benefits of the project extend across the entire organisation. In addition, an information and awareness campaign is being carried out on palliative care and the importance of continuous training in this sector.

Hospice Malta Chief Executive Officer Kenneth Delia expressed his appreciation for the support provided through European Funds, stating that this project continues to strengthen the organisation’s capacity to deliver palliative care services of excellence. He noted that investing in employees means a direct investment in the quality of care provided to patients and their families.

The Minister concluded the visit by reaffirming the Government’s commitment to continue supporting initiatives that make strategic use of European funds to strengthen essential services such as those offered by Hospice Malta and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
