The Popular Conference for Palestinians Abroad has stressed the need to strengthen the resilience of Palestinian refugee camps overseas and support the role of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA), amid Israeli and American pressure aimed at ending the agency’s operations.

In a statement issued at the close of its 28th General Secretariat meeting and reported by Quds Press, the conference rejected measures taken by the UNRWA administration that it said undermine the rights of agency employees and Palestinian refugees who rely on its services.

It also called for sustaining the global popular solidarity movement in support of the Palestinian people, urging supporters to build on and institutionalise popular mobilisation.

The conference reaffirmed its commitment to Palestinian national principles and said it would continue fulfilling what it described as growing responsibilities placed on Palestinians living abroad.

It further condemned a decision by the US Treasury Department to impose financial restrictions on its work and activities, saying the move reflected what it called “blatant bias” in favour of the occupation’s aggressive policies.

The conference said the US decision has no legal basis, and reiterated its intention to continue its work as part of the Palestinian national project and in service of the Palestinian people.
