Croatian Minister of Economy Ante Šušnjar gave an interview to Zagreb-based index.hr, in which he discussed the gas interconnection with Serbia, which would provide the neighbouring country with access to the LNG terminal on Krk. For this interconnection, the initial capacity requires building about 15 kilometres of gas pipeline. Serbia, he said, is interested in this project.

“Serbia will consider a project to develop a gas interconnector with Croatia”, said Energy Minister Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic in an interview with Belgrade-based K1 TV, Seenews reported. However, she also expressed doubts about the reliability of that supply route.

“The interconnection as an additional supply route is important for us, but we’ll see whether there will be any signing of an agreement on the intention to build it. So, we’ll discuss it, we’ll talk, we’ll think about it,” she said, warning of Croatia’s past behaviour, recalling that pipeline operator Janaf refused to deliver crude for replenishing Serbia’s mandatory reserves, even though the Serbian state itself was not subject to US sanctions.

The Serbian energy ministry’s Development Plan says that Serbia’s section of the interconnector is planned to be 95 km long and completed by 2031 for 60 million euros.
