Want to Retire in Portugal? Here’s What to Know, as Americans Move There in Droves.

  1. My wife and I moved to Porto last year after living and working for 30 years in Asia. For us after several trips to Portugal we knew what to expect and what was expected from us. I am amazed that there are Americans who will come to Portugal to live sight unseen. Without overseas experience the change in lifestyle and culture is huge. While there are more Americans immigrating, the numbers are still small. I would encourage anyone thinking of relocating here to take your time and tryout several countries first before jumping in. Portugal is amazing, especially the kindness of the people, but this life, culture and food is not for everyone.

  2. >Americans, including many retirees, millennials and remote workers, are still one of the smallest **expat** groups in the country of 10 million, being outnumbered by **émigrés** from Brazil, the U.K., Cape Verde, India and Italy last year, according to a spokesperson for the SEF

bem, pelo menos é em francês…

  3. I have no issue with expats coming into Portugal at all, as long as they don’t contribute to worsening the real estate market
