Luckily found 2 Schwalbeschwanz Butterfly caterpillars in my garden from Switzerland

  2. You need to protect them or they’ll quickly become bird food – get a muslin or similar soft transparent cloth until they’re in their puppae form.

  4. Congratulations! If you like, you can keep them in a simple wooden, open caterpillar box to protect them from birds. If you leave them they likely won’t live long enough to pupate.

  5. Nice! I was a child when I have seen a Rüebliraupe the last time. I didn’t remember that they look so beautiful. In my region the Pfauenauge is the most common and their caterpillar is kind of ugly.

  6. How can an insect that crawls around with 24 legs or whatever morph into a flying insect? That’s just fascinating.
