Hungary is like Putin’s man on the inside and Germany and France want to backslide, give Ukraine territory to Russia to appease Putin. Shameful and stupid.
Starting with Germany and Italy who allowed their companies to pay Russia in rubles but try to convince way poorer countries to carry on with the sanctions.
…to the surprise of no one.
EU members have widely different interests that simply dont align, especially in this case.
“taking one for the team” and showing solidarity is also completely pointless. half of the time you wont even get a “thank you” while you do it and it most certainly will not create any goodwill for later. we’ve seen this very clearly in the last decade or two.
The EU oil sanctions are very important. Without these, it will be very hard later put pressure on other countries (secondary sanctions, import tariffs, and other friction to discourage countries from doing business with russia).
Today, russia is probably making more money from fewer oil exports due to the higher market prices.
Gas, at least, has long term fixed price contracts, and russia is usually the one breaking them.
fucking Orban
EU where each country looks out for themselves only, where’s the unity in this
Putin is counting on this happening. He has taken Russia to the precipice, and all it’s going to take is a little bit more. You can’t give up now… this house of cards is starting to buckle
I don’t love paying double for gas and groceries, either but we need to hang in there until Ukraine wins or Russia collapses
EU unity? Nice joke
There is constant internal bickering in almost every country between the two factions:
– Putin supporters + Fake hypocrite pacifists who say “Putin hasn’t done anything wrong/ Ukraine must surrender and be raped by Russia so we can live in peace/ Everything is NATO’s fault, they caused this/ We don’t wanna send weapons cause that will make us Russian targets and we’re scared shitless of Putin…so a bunch of dumb accusations and excuses”
– Ukraine supporters + Pro-Democracy who actually have eyes and ears to understand what is going on “Russia must be held accountable/ Putin has shown his true face: a sadist tyrant/ We must aid Ukraine as much as we can/ We won’t stand to be blackmailed by Russia through gas or oil…”
Then there’s countries like Hungary (don’t wanna vote sanctions), Serbia (already got a deal with Putin for gas) and Turkey (vote against Finland and Sweden joining NATO) who are playing with fire.
Unimaginable that bunch of countries unified by bureaucracy will put their national interests first and political bravado last. At this stage it’s just a political bravado, because majority of sanctions that actually dealt a blow were done by private companies and political ones were pure shit show.
EU can’t even sanction 6k people in Navalny list, instead going after Oligarchs that can’t do a shit in their own country, because law enforcement groups under Putin and the only reason why people consider them powerful is because West retarded and know nothing about Russia in a first place.
At this stage seriously starting to wonder how much of utility/food bill it should become for EU citizen to give up Ukraine and who will break first.

I didn’t realise there was unity to begin with.
