The sceptic in me says this is just Sainsburys and Tesco scrapping deals so they can put prices up…. 🤔
People will still buy junk food without offers. When you are used to eating lots of ultra-processed foods, you are just not going to cut them out because they are not on offer. People are just going to complain about the lack of offers on junk food, loading up their trolleys with it all the while.
False headline. They are not banning junk food offers.
The article goes on to confirm the ban is on BOGOF / multibuy offers. – “Tesco said it will remove multi-buy promotions food which are high in fat, sugar or salt (HFSS products) by the end of October.”
Sainsbury’s said they have banned multi buy offers on junk food since 2016.
Which may be true.
Take a look at Sainsbury’s groceries website. It’s full of offers on pizza, ice cream, cake, chips etc etc.
They’ve replace the BOGOF with ‘Half Price’ “£1 off, £2 off” offers. Those are not multibuy promotions, despite ‘half price’ being a better offer than BOGOF.
Sainsburys and Tesco to raise prices and pretend it’s for your own good.
Haven’t seen a true BOGOF in years anyway.

They’re going to scrap deals that make food cheaper so people can save on food bills?
Maybe shift the BOGOF offers to healthy food instead of scrapping promotions entirely.
Tory policy is literally “let them eat cake” you can’t make this shit up.
I don’t know about all this junk food business, I think when it comes to diet, there’s personal responsibility. Boris Johnson isn’t shoving doughnuts down your throat.
Veg is cheap.
Though I would say that lifestyle is one of the problems in this country. By 19:00, people are too tired to cook a proper meal.
Why are the government planning to ban offers on junk food? What’s the logic? I love my 2 for 1 and BOGOF offers. Why does the government need to regulate it? Seems a bit of an overreach to me.
Is that what boris’ teeth look like?
Sainsburys and tesco get perfect excuse to increase prices of the food that nearly all of their staff uses. Just means thefts are gonna go up cus staff wont pay £5 for sandwich, crisps and a drink.
Watching them brag about record profits over the last few years just solidifies the truth in this.
Here’s a thought why not just stop councils granting planning permission for takeaways? 4 have opened up in my town since the beginning of the year, If the temptation isn’t there people won’t buy them.
All this pointless point scoring to get headlines instead of actually reducing costs and taking the hit. Pathetic.
Will this apply to Jamie Oliver’s ready meals?
