International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva affirmed that the Egyptian government has shown strong commitment to achieving the objectives of its economic reform program and implementing challenging measures.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Sky News Arabia on the sidelines of the 2026 World Government Summit in Dubai, she said the Fund is nearing the completion of the final review of Egypt’s economic reform programme.
Georgieva added that the IMF will disburse dlrs 2 billion to the Egyptian government in exchange for the commitments made under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF), in addition to dlrs 300 million under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF).
She stressed “at this stage, we want to see the program successfully implemented. Once Egypt does so, further cooperation will follow,” noting that “our support goes beyond financial assistance to include backing Egypt’s serious policy efforts.”
Georgieva also highlighted that the reform program provides guidance to improve the business environment and promote growth led by the private sector.
