  1. > The leader of the US House of Representatives said it was “deeply concerning” the British government was planning to unilaterally end protocol checks previously agreed with the EU.

    > Ms Pelosi said she had previously told Mr Johnson and [Minister for Trashing Government Deals] Liz Truss that if they choose to “undermine” the Good Friday Agreement, then Congress “cannot and will not support a bilateral free trade agreement with the UK”.

In other news, [it was revealed](https://www.irishtimes.com/news/politics/truss-made-turnips-in-truck-brexit-remark-about-ireland-1.4881846) that Truss was the Irish trade expert who

    > told a US audience three years ago that the impact of a no-deal Brexit on Ireland would only “affect a few farmers with turnips in the back of their trucks.”

  2. We knew this, the US is a guarantee of the GFA.

You aren’t getting away from that ball and chain unless NI is ceded.

  3. LOL

This is what “Taking back control” looks like my friends. The oncomining dominionist regime in the US will own us in fee simple.

  4. So from being owned by the EU and the US. Now the UK is just owned by the US? What a pathetic nation the UK is. Huge poverty, bowing down to the US and a weak population that takes anything the Tories do without any consequences.

  5. One of the _actual_ big players on the world stage step in and give the Imperial cosplayers a taste of reality.

  6. It’s a sad day when American politicians of any stripe seem to have more common sense than our own bloody government. Tories are an absolute embarrassment.

Can we just import some Scandinavian politicians or something?

  7. So the UK/EU needed 4 Years to reach a compromise and the very next thing the UK does is to say “jea, we will ignore the parts which dont work for us”.

Imagine a tenant, which haggled 4 years, just to skip the first rent saying: “I dont scrap the rental. We keep the parts which work for me, the part of providing shelter, water and power – but the rent part just doesnt work for me.”

What do you think would be an appropriate answer to that “tenant”? Maybe “FUCK OFF!”?

  8. Imagine being the bad guys when the USA is involved. We can’t even act superior to them any more.

What a joke this country has become.

  9. He was so self assured and thought he was the big man that he was going to get a good quick trade deal with the U.S., but it hasn’t happened the way he thought it would go. He just cannot be trusted to do anything the proper way. He has no respect for politics or democracy.

  10. You mean that trade deal that majority of Brits aren’t even interested in, including I would hazard about 100% of this subreddit?

    That trade deal?

  11. Man. The huge fuck up was a referendum without any clue what the fuck they were trying to achieve and then propaganda that meant nothing like Brexit means Brexit

It would have been sensible to explore some options and then offer a referendum to the British population that was more than a yes/no but offered actual options and we got to pick from a range of say 6

    Leave things as they are

More checks and balances against EU meddling in UK law

    Even more of the above

Right through to the shit show we have now.

I don’t like the way it was done and voted remain based on the sheer fucking unknown of what we were being asked to vote for.

Now NI is at risk and there could be huge issues. I hope there are no troubles again.

  12. On the one hand, fuck bojo the liar and fuck unilateral bullshit and fuck Brexit.

On the other hand, america can fuck off too. The amount of support we’ve shown they should be offering us a trade deal whatever. And I don’t think we want the sort of deal their offering anyway.

Not sure who to hate more!?

  13. good, glad big daddy is putting the UK in their place
“Brexit means Brexit, we are a soverign nation that wont be taking orders from the EU”

  14. While this is yet another debacle from the clowns we have in government, I’m also apprehensive about what kind of trade deal the tories would strike with the US so…. silver lining?

  15. Nancy.. stick to solving your own Country’s problems..God knows you have enough to keep you busy with the freaks and cretins in your own broken political system..

  16. The US keeps saying this and I’m sure the UK government would love a trade deal with them, but I don’t think the UK public wants a deal with the US, what if we had to lower food standards? I don’t want to have to research every product for harmful stuff like my friends in the US do bc it isn’t as regulated.

I’d rather us try and make the NI protocol work so we can develop closer trade with the EU again as I think the food standards are similar to ours. I’m more concerned about a trade war with them than the US.
