Winner Tacos and Maccers wedges were the dog’s bollox
Joe Rooney doing the McDonald’s voiceover, and a young Gerard butler having a pint of the black
class
Love the Guinness water tower ad with Gerard butler and the DJ Shadow Stem track. Marvellous
Des Lynam in the Right Guard ad was only 55 at time of the ad. He always seemed much older. Especially in the context of Linekar who, now, is 61.
This must be later than 1997. In the Bulmers ad they hold up £10 saying “this used to be a tenner, now it’s €12”. So wouldn’t it be 1999 or later? Since the exchange rate wasn’t set until then.
The King Lear ad is surprisingly erudite for a Coke ad.
Man what a trip down memory lane. I can still remember the smell of lynx apollo. Never got to try those wedges tho.
Esso ad was pretty good – “*here’s all the wildlife we’re driving to extinction*”

Do petrol chains even advertise on TV anymore? I can’t think of any recent ads.
Of course they’re recorded during Die Hard with a Vengeance! I think that film must have been on RTE at least once a month back in the 90s.
That King Lear ad though! Coca Cola giving this market too much credit.
That Lear one was brilliant. I want more of that, give me a Lyon’s advert based on Riders to the Sea
Lot of smelly men watching die hard 3 I guess
I’d have laughed so hard if this included the rest of Die Hard as well, not the start but everything after that first ad break XD
Love it. I have a heap of old VHS tapings from the 80’s 90’s and early 00’s. Was thinking of making a YouTube channel capturing the ad breaks digitally and uploading them for the craic.
RTE fairly took the piss with those 11 minute ad breaks.
I digitised around 30 hours of 90s tapes recently. All recorded from the TV. I should pull the ads out of them if theirs so much interest.
