CVS Health – Aetna said it will layoff 313 people who report to management at its building in Hartford.

In a letter to the state Department of Labor, Jennifer Bailey, executive director of Colleague Relations for CVS Health – Aetna, provided a list of impacted positions, and said, “we are writing to inform you that as result of operational changes in CVS Health Aetna’s Small Group business segment the Company will be conducting layoffs” that will impact employees.

Bailey said the employees work remotely, mostly outside of Connecticut, and report into management at the facility located at 151 Farmington Avenue, Hartford.

“This action is expected to be permanent,” Bailey wrote. “Of the affected employees seventeen (17) reside in Connecticut. Most of the affected employees work from home remotely in a variety of states outside of Connecticut but report into a leader” at the Hartford office.

Bailey noted that the connection to the Hartford office means the company had to let the state know of the layoffs, as “the out stationed/remote employees are treated as “assigned” to that office.

The layoffs as a result of the decision are expected to occur between April 3, 2026 and July 31, 2026, according to Bailey.

“All employees who will be terminated as a result of this action have been notified of their separation dates and that their separation from employment will be permanent,” Bailey wrote.

Bailey also noted she was providing a “listing of the job titles of the positions to be affected, the number of affected employees in each job title, and their expected dates of separation.”

“There are no bumping rights for the affected employees and the employees are not represented by a union,” Bailey wrote.

The layoffs disclosed this week are the eighth round since the health care giant made a sweeping announcement in September, 2024 focusing on job cuts. CVS said it planned to slash 2,900 corporate jobs nationwide over the next few years, as it struggled with rising medical costs and would shift to its core, or mainstay businesses.

Since that announcement, 1,046 locally-connected jobs — a mix of those working in Hartford or those reporting to the Aetna headquarters in the city — have been targeted for layoffs. An analysis of the notices filed with the state labor department show about 12%, or 130, were Connecticut residents.

The office of Hartford Mayor Arunan Arulampalam said, “The City of Hartford has reviewed the notice filed by CVS Health announcing the planned layoff of employees expected between April 3rd and July 31st of this year. Any job loss in Hartford is a serious concern, especially when families across our city and state are navigating difficult times and economic hardship. The city will continue to express the importance of keeping jobs in Hartford and preserving opportunities for economic growth in our Capital City.”

The company said in a separate statement, “CVS Health employs approximately 300,000 colleagues nationwide, and we regularly look for ways to operate as effectively as possible to better serve our clients, consumers, and members. These efforts sometimes involve department restructuring that can entail an increase in certain roles, a reduction in certain roles, or both.

“For the WARN notice filed yesterday, a total of 313 positions are impacted, with 17 of those colleagues living in Connecticut. The total number includes people who work remotely but report to someone who is located at the Hartford office,” the statement said. “We are committed to supporting these colleagues, who will receive severance pay and benefits, including access to outplacement services.”

The company also noted, “CVS Health has a deep and longstanding presence in Connecticut, employing approximately 8,800 colleagues across 181 locations statewide, and remains committed to the communities we serve even as we periodically adjust our organization.”

CVS said in October it would layoff 72 workers after losing a contract for its Aetna Medicare Medicaid Program in 2026, at that time affecting employees that are working remotely in three states — Michigan, Ohio and Kentucky, according to a notice filed recently with the Connecticut labor department.

The majority of those jobs — 44 — were listed as “case manager RN — field” and are located in Ohio. The layoffs are expected to become effective between Dec. 31 and March 31.

Those job cuts also were said to be expected to be permanent. None of the remote workers losing their jobs then were based in Connecticut, but they also did report to managers at Aetna’s headquarters at 151 Farmington Ave. in Hartford.

The new letter to the state, dated, February 4, 2026, was addressed to Susan Fracasso Rapid Response Coordinator Connecticut Department of Labor, Wethersfield.
