Yeah, every human should have the right not to ever be forced into fitting turf. Backbreaking work. Looking at this pic gives me nightmares. Although, mind you, nothing tastes better than a cup a tae and sanwiches out on the bog.
American here, what the fook am I looking at here? Cheers, mates!
I mean I had a serious tan as a teenager … Up to the top of my t-shirt sleeves at least 🤣
Personally I prefer the loading of the trailer where a poorly thrown sod flies over to the other side and smashes some unsuspecting cousin in the head. Ahhh how the fuck did any of us survive?
Footing has its merits as its kinda fun building little turf houses but the fact that it also gives you spinal injuries as a 10 year old probably isn’t the best.
Oh the joys. My favorite parts are the Horse flies and me and the father in law lifting it the hard way into a little trailer whilst we watch the neighbours use 20 people and a tractor with a loading bucket, the whole plot gone in 30 mins, we on the other hand spend the whole week driving in and out loading this little trailer.
That pic is gearing me up for going out footing mine Saturday morning.
Could someone explain?
Wandering back the road with a fertiliser bag picking up what fell off the trailer, ah the good auld days, when you’d get 10p for a sparkler in the shop to cool ya.
I don’t get it
You could just get gas
The only positive about footing is you’re getting near the end, next stop is loading the trailer.
Unless of course you decide to refoot it to build it up strong. Just for a bit of extra misery
My PTSD has been triggered
I’ll never forget never having been to a bog before and mum started dating a farmer so he took my 12 bad back novice self to the bog. It was the most excruciating hours of my life. I literally cried and I would also like to mention I had a phobia of spiders. I thank the heavens she no longer with him. There’s only so many summers I could take 😭
I grew up on farms I England, I’ve never seen people doing this?
A few soggy sandwiches and a big bottle of country spring and that was it till u got home
Thankfully on the way out
I am an American so could someone please tell me what I am looking at?
Controversial. A field of Terf.
Ecological Catastrophe, but yeah, you should all worry about the poor fellas backs from destroying our bogs. Sure it might grow back in a few thousand years!
FOR PEATS SAKE!
stacking them upwards is discriminatory against downwards
Christ I hated it, especially when the grass had grown into the sods and you had to use a load more effort.
Well there certainly are laws against types of it now.
Conscription, Irish style.
I love the smell of ecological destruction in the morning.
My backs killing me just looking at that picture…
Love the smell of burning turf
Great day at the bog.
If you like hardship
Turn it
Foot it
Reek it
Then bring it off the bog in a barrow to the trailer.
What in the fresh fuck am I even looking at?
Red lemonade, sandwiches. Few loads done during the day and a swim in the canal that evening.
Oh man. My back just pinged looking at that. I had to move 30 bags the other day. First time manhandling turf in a couple of years. I’m still sore. H.T.F did I do 400 of them on my own every year for 20 years…?
What is going on here?
Oh wow a lovely little PTSD flashback to get my morning rolling.
Footing turf is grand work.
A skip every half hour, and you’d be done in good time.
I believe in Jenga Tower supremacy
I’m getting Post Traumatic Turf Disorder just looking at this.
Thousands of years to form, a few days to dig up.
My grandparents used to have the range on 24 7. It’s crazy in this day and age.
Wasting our last natural resources so someone can have an indoor sauna.
It makes me angry to see it.
The secret was never to look up.
The peat that gets up your nose every time is chemical warfare
The same landowners will oppose to solar farms and claim theyre bad for biodiversity when the renewable companies pledge to the renewal of bogs.
Is this this year?
Haven’t even got mine cut yet!!
