On January 28, Donald Trump signed a new executive order imposing tariffs on products from countries that supply oil to Cuba. This illegal action is a serious energy blockade measure aimed at damaging the economy of this sister country, and of course its agriculture and food supply, in order to punish its people for their sovereign decision to uphold their Revolution and Independence, and intensifies the economic blockade imposed for more than 60 years.

This and other measures are part of the dangerous imperialist escalation in the Western Hemisphere that increased at the end of 2025 with the deployment of the US Navy in the Caribbean, the illegal confiscation of oil tankers in international waters, attacks on vessels off the Venezuelan and Colombian coasts, and the military aggression against Venezuela on January 3 to kidnap President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, threatening similar interventionist actions against Cuba, Colombia, Mexico, and Nicaragua. not to mention the resurgence of anti-immigrant violence by ICE in the US itself, which has provoked widespread rejection by the American people.

The Latin American Coordination of Rural Organizations-Via Campesina rejects these imperialist actions by the US government and stands in solidarity with the peasants of Cuba, the Cuban people, and their revolutionary government led by President Miguel Diaz Canel.

We demand an end to the energy and economic blockade, respect for the sovereignty of the Republic of Cuba and the right to self-determination of the Cuban people. We demand respect for the decision of the Caribbean peoples who, since 2014, within the framework of the Second Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), proclaimed Latin America and the Caribbean a Zone of Peace, as endorsed by the Eighth Congress of CLOC-Via Campesina held in December 2025 in Oaxtepec, Mexico.
