Our colleagues in a number of the pounds that we work with are under severe pressure and *unfortunately some of their healthy dogs could face a threat of being put to sleep if the pounds cannot find placements for them.*
The dogs involved are primarily lurchers, Ireland’s most abused, neglected and overlooked, misunderstood dog. Sadly quite a few have non contagious mange due to poor diet and neglect, and have some cuts and sores.
We want to help these dogs and help our colleagues who are heartbroken and stressed at the thought of what might lie ahead. Our shelter is quite full so we would like to find foster placements if possible.
The foster homes should be in the Kildare area for close proximity to our vets, preferably have no younger children or cats, and if there are dogs then the foster carers must be aware that we don’t know how these dogs are with other dogs and would need to be introduced carefully so that they can be integrated successfully into the home.
The foster carers should be prepared to drive to the vets when necessary, and also be prepared to accommodate visits by potential adopters. Also they should be at home for a good part of the day. All veterinary costs are covered by the KWWSPCA, food and bedding provided. Can you help? If so, please submit an expression of interest form (below) and mention fostering as the dog you are interested in.

I have been out to the KWWSPCA before and it’s so well run. I have 2 dogs at home (8 and 10) and 2 young kids so can’t foster at the moment. Hopefully we will be able to help out in a few more years.
I’m in Galway or I would help ye out. Poor dogs, I hope you get a good response from this!
Another product of the housing crisis as a whole I’d say. Hotels and hostels won’t take dogs and good luck finding a landlord who will accept pets and HAP.
First time I’ve seen a dog housing emergency and felt bad for the people having to give up their pets. Must be heartbreaking.
Tinkers need to be made a show of for the cruelty they inflict on lurchers and whippets and subsequently abandoning them if they get injured or aren’t good at lamping.
Disgrace in this country. Lurchers are beautiful loving kind dogs.
