Residents in the Greater Toronto Area are in for another blast of winter weather Friday as Environment Canada warns of strong winds, frigid temperatures and frostbite risk.

A yellow weather alert has been issued for the entire GTA for wind chills of -30 to -35 starting Friday night into Saturday morning. Environment Canada warned those wind chills may come back Saturday night into Sunday morning for some areas.

In addition, Halton region has a second yellow weather alert for “significantly reduced visibility” from snowfall and strong winds.

The rest of the GTA has been issued a special weather statement for blowing snow and wind gusts up to 80 kilometres per hour.

About four to eight centimetres of snow is expected by Friday evening throughout the GTA, said the national weather agency.

It warned of frostbite risk and possible snow squalls as a cold front is forecasted from Friday night until Saturday morning.

That front will also bring back frigid temperatures with a low of -19 C that will feel like -31 C overnight.

The chilly temperatures will stick around on a sunny Saturday morning with a wind chill of -31 in the morning and -22 in the afternoon.

Environment Canada warns people to have emergency supplies, like extra blankets and jumper cables, packed in vehicles.

It said people should watch out for cold-related symptoms, such as shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle weakness, or any change of colour in fingers and toes.

“Extreme cold puts everyone at risk.,” said the weather agency, adding young kids, seniors, people with chromic illnesses, and those without proper shelter should exercise extra caution.

Residents in Halton are being urged to change all non-essential travel plans until conditions improve.

“Protect yourself from wind, cold and disorientation by staying sheltered, indoors or with your vehicle,” said the weather agency’s warning on Friday.
