  1. Context from OP in r/northernireland

    >Big context though is, despite the massive uproar on twitter about this. The phrase “The planter and the gael” is from a Protestant poet who believed in non-sectarianism. His work largely focused on identity and the history of Ulster.

  2. I’m shocked a white American calling a unionist a “planter” didn’t spontaneously implode out of sheer hypocrisy.

  3. Stephen Nolan was losing his shit about this on the beeb last night giving no context. It might as well have been Tucker Carlson.

  4. … immigrants that hate immigrants yet are equal opportunity haters as they also hate indigenous.

  5. The term Planter and the Gael is a term coined by a poet….. a Protestant one. Was used as a poetic term for the green and orange people on the island and isn’t meant as a pejorative on either.

  6. That’s exactly what they are, but they forget this or turn a blind eye the unionist people are the oddest group of folk on earth everyone is laughing

  7. He’s being quite eloquent actually, and affable with it.

I’ve lived in Oxford for 26 years and I’ve been summarily referred to as a terrorist by allegedly educated people on a regular basis, told that I am hated for being Irish and Catholic, and assaulted for being Irish. Nobody here gives a fuck if you try to complain about any of that.
