Context of events and additional data

Earlier, on December 21, in Argeș County in southern Romania near the commune of Lerești, a unmanned aerial vehicle with an attached parachute was discovered. According to News.ro sources, the device had a parachute attached. Law enforcement informed the competent authorities, who are to determine the drone’s origin and the circumstances of its crash.

Drones are often spotted over military and defense bases, including those used for training Ukrainian troops. In September 2025, NATO countries repeatedly accused Russia of unprecedented airspace violations. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that numerous breaches of the EU’s airspace are part of a systemic campaign aimed at dividing Europe and weakening support for Ukraine. Russia rejects these accusations.

This case underscores growing attention to the use of drones in the region and the need for coordination among countries to prevent such incidents in the future.
