Procession of Otto von Habsburg in Prague?

  1. I was in Prague this saturday and I was wondering why there was a procession lead by a priest (about 30 people were following) with people holding up a picture of who I think is Otto von Habsburg.
Are these people royalists? Whats the reason behind it?
    Thanks in advance

  2. Hi, I am from Czech Republic and never heard anything about that. It looks like some minority of public space, it is not wide public opinion for sure.

  3. That is Karel III – last Emperor Karl in Austria. Might be a Catholic thing, as he’s Blessed Karl now days and some people want him be a saint.

  4. Nope, that’s not Otto von Habsburg. It’s actually Charles I, the last Czech king. He’s buried in St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague since the 24th April. These people could be royalists but they might not be. Some people like him even if they’re not royalists because his relationship with the Czechs was a lot better than what was typical for most members of his dynasty.

  5. Edit: Okay, it really seems to be Karel III, thanks to the fast replies 🙂

Wasnt too far off with Otto tho 😀

  6. Nazis, Communists, Monarchists… There’s always gonna be a few odd ones in every society. Nothing to see here.
