Boris Johnson’s pro-Brexit father Stanley becomes French

  1. Sickening. Talk about having his cake and eating it – at least soak up the full Brexit experience like the rest of us that were stripped of our EU citizenship have to.

*edit… one of the sub’s usual faces is pushing the “he’s a remainer” line and whilst it’s true that he voted Remain, he did a full 180 as soon as the result came out and through his weight behind this shitshow [“However, by 2017 Boris had apparently persuaded his father to the leave cause; Stanley said: ‘the time has come to bail out’.”](https://www.politics.co.uk/reference/stanley-johnson-profile/)*…. seems like he decided he wanted to bail back in and get his citizenship back

  2. That’s some bad background research from the French – his stance alone should deny him

    French need to revoke it!

  3. Keep the natives shackled to your fields and mills and import cheaper labour whensoever possible. All Brexit achieved is ensuring we can’t escape the hell they’re creating. They can though. Obviously.

  4. Sorry… Boris’ father Stanley Johnson, who served as Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for Wight and Hampshire East from 1979 to 1984, worked for the European Commission before that and supported the remain campaign during the referendum? I had to check, but it seems that pro-brexit position he has expressed is that he’s said that the Ukraine war had ‘shaken’ his faith in the EU and that in that context, brexit was ‘maybe’ a good idea….

  5. >French law normally prevents children of its citizens from claiming nationality if their family has been abroad for more than 50 years without making use of their rights.

Oh I see, I was going to say this was a load of huff over nothing since his mum’s side are all French.

  6. I swear he was pro remain?

I honestly remember a lot of articles and reports during the run up stating that Boris and his dad were on opposing sides to the debate. If I remember a few of them, it said Stanley is pro remain?

Happy to be proven wrong if I’m mis-remembering or he changed his mind at a later date though.

  7. People think this is hypocritical and is contradictory but it isn’t at all. They don’t want you to have freedom of movement. It’s good for them. He’ll also get access to “la securité sociale” so access to hospitals with no waiting list like they do in first world countries. And if you were stupid enough to vote to lose all of it, I say you don’t really deserve any of it. So all is good in the best of worlds 🙂 Go the Johnson family!

  8. No just after Johnson became PM in 2019 Stanley gave an interview saying he now supported Brexit and we had to get on with it. To be fair he could have since seen what a bloody awful mess it has all been and wants to get out and who can blame him?

  9. this is straight up treason!!!!! boris needs to do the right things and strip his father of his british citizenship.
