The second day of competition at the 2026 Olympic Games has concluded, and following its results, the lead in the medal table has changed: Norway now leads.

The second day brought the competition for eight sets of medals across seven disciplines: snowboarding (parallel giant slalom for women and men), biathlon, luge, alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, speed skating, and figure skating.

The first event of the day was the snowboarding parallel giant slalom. In the women’s stage, Ukraine was represented by Annamari Dancha, but she did not pass the qualification. The women’s winner was Czech Zuzana Maderová, and the men’s winner was Austrian Benjamin Karl, which allowed him to enter the leading group.

Day Two Recap: Ukrainians and Other Leaders

In biathlon, a mixed relay took place; the Ukrainian team, led by captain Dmytro Pidruchnyi and three debutants – Vitaliya Mandzina, Olena Horodna and Oleksandra Merkushyna – finished the mixed relay in eighth place. France celebrated the victory.

In the men’s cross-country skiing events, the victory went to Norwegian Johannes Klæbo, and two Ukrainian athletes finished in the skiathlon for the first time in 16 years. Also, Sander Eitrem of Norway brought the country a gold in speed skating at the 5000-meter distance.

Ukraine was represented in two finals: the women’s downhill and the men’s singles luge. Both performances yielded national records: Anastasia Shepilenko finished in the top 35, and Andriy Mandziy took 12th place.

In downhill, Breezy Johnson – the first American champion in this event since Lindsey Vonn in 2010. In luge, the champion was German Max Langenhan.

The day’s final set of medals was decided in the team event in figure skating: the United States won, Japan took second.

After two days of competition, Norway remained the leader of the medal table, with three gold medals and six medals in total.
