Missing Jon Jonsson

Gardai have renewed their missing persons appeal seven years after the disappearance of Jón Jónsson, a citizen of Iceland who has not been seen since February 2019.

Jón, who was 41 years old at the time he went missing, had travelled to Ireland to take part in the Dublin Poker Festival. He was last seen leaving the Bonnington Hotel on the Swords Road shortly before 11am on Saturday, February 9, 2019.

CCTV footage subsequently captured Jón walking past the entrance to Highfield Hospital in the direction of Collins Avenue junction. This was the last known sighting of him.

Over the past seven years, Gardai have conducted extensive searches and issued multiple public appeals as part of their investigation in the hope of tracing the whereabouts of Jón but to no avail.

Investigating Gardai continue to treat the case as an active missing person investigation.

Now, on the seventh anniversary of Jón’s disappearance, the force has reiterated its appeal for anyone with information that may help them with their probe to make contact with authorities.

“We are especially appealing to anyone who was in the Whitehall, Santry, or Collins Avenue areas on the morning of 9th February 2019, or who may have spoken with or seen Jón around that time.

“An Garda Síochána continues to support Jón’s family, who have endured immense distress and uncertainty over the past seven years.

“We remain dedicated to finding answers for them.

“Anyone who has any information on Jón’s disappearance or who can assist in locating him is asked to contact Ballymun Garda Station on 01 666 4400, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.”
