Dictators have a pretty bad track record in Romania. We had the following ones who can be called dictators: king Carol II, Antonescu, Dej, Ceausescu.
– king Carol II died in exile in Portugal. His train that led him to exile was attacked with guns by the far right Legionaries because he lost a bunch of territories.
– Antonescu- as seen above, he was executed
– Dej- died in office because of cancer. He is the only one who died peacefully
– Ceausescu- a show trial was concocted by the new guys in power and got executed immediately after.
Bonus guys: the two leaders of the main far right party in the 30’s (the Legion) did not had it better. Corneliu Zelea Codreanu was assassinated and Horia Sima died in exile.
So, 3 out of 4 dictators were either exiled or executed. Not bad
Rest in peace. A complex figure with a lot of flaws, but one who geniunely loved his country and wanted the best for Romania.
They are still clutching their hats. Baffling when faced with eminent death.
Romania executed both a far-right and far-left dictator in the 20th century.
Did any other European country accomplish such a feat?
