McVitie’s has unveiled two new flavours of its popular cake bars, though fans have highlighted one minor problem with them. The leading biscuit manufacturer is renowned for its extensive range of sweet treats, from the iconic Jaffa Cake to the classic Milk Chocolate Digestive and beyond.

Within its product portfolio is the much-loved cake bar, an individually wrapped layer of sponge topped with chocolate and often flavoured to complement other favourite chocolate bars. Options include the Penguin chocolate milkshake cake bar, the Jaffa Cake version, the Milky Way cake bar and numerous others.

Most recently, McVitie’s has prepared for the warmer months with the introduction of two new flavours – strawberries and cream, and pineapple and coconut. The products include the familiar layer of sponge, topped with a layer of flavoured cream, all encased in a coating of indulgent chocolate.

Popular Instagram account New Foods UK posted an image of the two new summer flavours after they were discovered in Iceland.

In the caption alongside a photograph of the bars, the food-focused account simply wrote: “New McVitie’s Cake Bars from @icelandfoods [shocked face emoji] These sound amazing!”

In the comments section, users were quick to share their views, with many highlighting one issue – it’s still winter.

One Instagram user commented: “‘Summer collection’. It’s still winter??”

Another responded: “Well we’ve already had Easter for a few months so it must be summer now according to the supermarkets.”

A third commented: “I need to try these omg [heart eyes emoji] but maybe not for a few months. In summer, these will be lush!”

Another concurred: “They do sound amazing but it’s still winter!! I’m far too cold to even think about summery flavours. I’m still craving winter goodies”.

However, others remained enthusiastic about sampling them. One commenter declared: “The pineapple and coconut ones are a definite for me”.

Another tagged a friend, saying: “Ooh the pineapple and coconut ones are right up our street”.

And a further fan enthused: “Love these cake bars”.

McVitie’s has been producing cakes and biscuits since 1839, beginning life as “a small provision shop on Rose Street in Edinburgh, Scotland.”

By 1843, the company had launched a second outlet here in the capital.

Charles Price came aboard in 1888 and, “over the next 13 years”, played a pivotal role in transforming “the brand into a household name known as McVitie and Price.”

According to the McVitie’s website, in 1892, “Alexander Grant developed the original recipe for the famous McVitie’s Digestives biscuit”. That formula has remained the firm’s “secret to this day.”

New Foods UK has amassed a dedicated social media following through its dependable updates, photographs and videos highlighting the newest confectionery, snacks and other products appearing in supermarkets and shops nationwide. The account, which has attracted 370K Instagram followers, regularly posts reviews and product announcements as well.
