Never mind the decade that broke Britain. It was the Tories that broke Britain! Self serving bast*rdz the lot of them. Saor Alba 🏴
Never seen country going down that fast as in this last decade.
Tory fiscal policy after a recession = tighten every belt, discourage investment by companies in their businesses to increase productivity, cut council budgets, cut policing, NHS, fire, rescue services down to the bone. Charge students more to learn. Get the “deficit” back to 0 at any cost, so public image looks good.
They did this while a lot of other countries recovering from the recession spent and borrowed to increase productivity and wages, thus in turn strengthening their currency.
Now the pound is slipping, wages have stagnated and are not rising in line with inflation and the jobs market is bigger than ever because productivity is down. Slow clap.
Without clicking the article it’s impossible to tell if they mean 1980s, 1990s, 2010s or if they’re predicting more gloom for the 2020s.
(Funny how all those years have a party in common isn’t it?)
The mad thing is we’ve had 4 general elections and 2 referendums since 2010, it was a far more democratic decade than most yet at every opportunity the people of this country voted to make things worse for themselves.
When Cameron got in I remember telling friends that I had a “really, *really* fucking bad feeling” about it.
They laughed it off. And why wouldn’t you – usually it was just a case of riding it out if you didn’t like an election result.
I don’t even know myself why my reaction was so visceral. I’ve always been very perceptive when it comes to people, and Cameron gave me major bad ‘vibes’.
When I look back over the damage resulting from that result I often think back to that moment.
Anyway, Friday’s Euro millions numbers are …
Britain is the first country to impose economic sanctions on itself as far as I can tell.
Was in town yesterday. My word the state of the place. Felt like 1999 Bulgaria. Loads of shiny new petrol and diesel cars, but so many units shuttered up and others with just random Chinese shit thrown on tables with people rooting through. Branded stores replaced by knock-offs selling utter plastic shite.
I’m an Australian living in England, and this place is fucking depressing me lately, but Australia seems to be going steeply downhill too. I don’t know whether I’d be better off moving back.
What if voting was mandatory like in Australia.
Would this change which parties were voted in.
I’m in my 10s and from various forums and speaking to different people, quite a few people my age and in their 30s don’t vote at all.
I’m from the Netherlands same stuff over here.
Mainly a problem here in the west caused by quantitative easing. But no one ever talks about the effects of quantitative easing on the lower and middle income earners.
People getting priced out of housing is one of the effects.
It’s simple really Tories + Brexit = Disaster.
Rise of the Tories = the rise of r/beermoneyuk
Was thinking about this when covid hit. We spent the last decade in austerity, now its crisis after crisis for the foreseeable future and we have had no investment back into the country. Instead it’s been bled dry to make a few at the top even richer.
Make hay when the sun shines. Well we’re out of sun and there was never any hay.
If you don’t have kids or elderly parents to care for, start looking into ways off this bastard island. I don’t see it getting any better any time soon.
Woe England Woe England it’s the English cunts that voted for this fuck fest we now find ourselves in.
This is what I keep saying. We can’t just keep adjusting the dials on all these schemes and systems. The economy is fundamentally broken and it’s kept intentionally broken by an idealogically driven government who fundamentally thinks being poor is a moral failing. Simply increasing benefits by X percent or taxes by y percent is at absolute best a sticking plaster on what is ultimately a completely flawed system.
Until we change everything, wealth inequality and income inequality are going to keep spiralling while more And more people are going to be living on the street or relying on charities to feed themselves and their kids in what is, ostensibly, the sixth richest country on earth.
I feel like something that needs to be talked about more is where the money has gone. We were a well functioning, wealthy country, massively productive, plenty paid in taxes, and yet everything is crumbling in a way that you don’t see across the rest of western Europe. Go to other EU countries that pay less tax than us and marvel at their working public transport, clean streets, and easy to get social housing and benefits.
Gotta love that austerity drive and the “rather uplifting” food banks that have been generated. Good feels.
Making Britain great again and totally loving the erosion of some of our rights, exactly what the public and tory voters signed up for. /s
Do you remember the good old days before the ghost town?
The economy has been on its last legs since the GFC. Policies since 2010 have only worsened matters.
The next decade is going to be rough as it’s all coming home to roost.
But didn’t you hear Boris? It is all because of the last Labour government.
The Conservative party is a cancer that just won’t go away.
Are there any Western countries that are functioning?
The US is a dumpster fire. Here in Canada our whole economy is based on a massive real-estate bubble built on foreign investors and money laundering. Germany decided it was better to shut down its own nuclear program and become dependent on Russian oil/gas. France always seems to be on the verge of another revolution.
Voted for by millions. Most of which still refuse to accept their mistakes. They will continue to vote for it next election.

The UK made [24 new billionaires](https://www.theguardian.com/business/2021/may/21/number-of-billionaires-in-uk-reached-new-record-during-covid-pandemic) during the pandemic. That’s an incomprehensible amount of money. Just one of those people has enough money to basically bribe an entire government or buy a whole country, and we now have 171 of them.
