  1. If there ever was an indication we live in a failed state, we have a bloke in power that is being protected by an elitist minority whilst other elected officials and the general public want him to resign and the conventions are he should resign as he broke the law in office, yet he clings on.

  2. Something something very sorry, didn’t realise it was such a bad culture at number 10, promise to sort it out something something here’s an extra £10 million for your constituents next budget something something we need your red wall voters blather blather were a broad church and we face the music together chortle chortle everything will be fine as long as you back me and we can sort out the economy together.

  3. ‘Shit lads, the imperial measurements thing didn’t really work. Any other ideas?’

‘Well Boz, maybe we could… I dunno, get Priti Patel out to say that the Rwanda refugees are going to be thrown into a Sarlac pit for good measure?’

‘That’s brilliant! Ring the Daily Mail immediately.’

    >EXC: Downing Street is considering regular Covid-style press conferences on the economy as part of a post-Jubilee PM fightback.
    >
    >PM / ministers would lead. Economic advisers alongside going through charts. Possibly weekly. To show Gov is on “war footing” over cost of living.
    >
    >There is also work underway for what’s been dubbed the “plan for growth” – highlighting the Gov’s drive to kickstart the economy as recession looms.
    >
    >Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak pencilled in for a joint speech the week after next (though specifics still to be locked down).
    >
    >There was also early talk in PM’s inner circle about creating a “minister for economic growth”.
    >
    >Would underscore Tory mantra that creating conditions for growth (not big handouts) is ultimately the way forward.
    >
    >But won’t be happening – confusing given PM / Sunak focus on this.
    >
    >Other things you’ll see…
    >
    >Renewed focus on National Insurance threshold rise coming in July, touted as a tax cut for millions
    >
    >Possibly new non-fiscal cost of living measures (lots of work on-going across Whitehall including raising childcare ratios).
    >
    >Rough thinking behind the regular press conf return proposal… show public you get seriousness of cost of living crisis, tout policy help in place, big public viewing.
    >
    >But obvious risks: raising awareness of dire economic numbers, media beat-up, could fuel sense of big problem.
    >
    >Senior Gov source explaining thinking: “The idea is to go onto a Covid-esque war footing on the economy. It is not a speech, it is not a moment. It is a relentless focus on the economy.”

  5. Who would you genuinely want to replace him from the Tories though…? Dread to think of someone like Truss or Sunak taking up the mantle.

  6. God forbid they actually get on with addressing the many issues affecting the country at the moment. Their number one priority is saving one man – the rest of the country can go fuck themselves..

  7. It’s not only MPs calling for his resignation, local Tories in formerly true blue North Yorkshire are also doing so- Carl Les Leader of the NY Tory Group

  8. If he had launched a save the working class and poor kids who rely on food banks campaign then you wouldn’t need to save him.

  9. On a really fundamental level, I don’t understand the surprise, nor the attempt to keep a hold of him.

He’s comitted preposterous amount of misconduct, and it’s predictably angered the electorate. What did they think would happen?

The only real solution was for him to behave himself, but he chose not to. And now there’s nothing that can really be done about that, since he’s shown us his true colours. He made his chocies, he has to take responsibility for the outcome (isn’t that a fundamental Conservative belief anyway?).

The Tories are harsh on crime, unemployed, the vulnerable etc. “They made their choices”, “personal responsibility”, “pull your socks up” etc. Yet when it’s one of their own there’s all this hand-wringing and begging for forgiveness and second chances.

Methinks the Tories should try living by their own values.

  10. I really fear that the presiding reason some MPs are turning on Boris is because he’s basically a scapegoat. The public have really painted him to be the problem, but there’s an entire conservative cabal that’s responsible for the crap they’ve pulled in their reign that look like they’ll not only not be held accountable, but might actually be lauded for ‘turning’ on Boris too.

  11. I’m pretty sure Boris would be (and was) a lot happier on the outside of Government, flinging his handfuls of shit everywhere with no responsibility to effect change. He should bow out now, while it’s still his choice, claim he “got brexit done” and get himself booked on the after-dinner circuit and a lucrative column in some right-wing hack rag.

  12. Boris who would be king.

It’s a shame these people weren’t as concerned about the state of country as they are with who’s in #10

  13. I can sort of understand their predicament, where on earth is it possible to find a replacement for a PM who has surrounded himself with morons from day one?

    Edit..tidying.

  14. That really means Boris Johnson has launched a huge save Boris campaign he probably stood in front of a mirror and said save me. The asshole will survive and continue with his fascist gang to wreak havoc on England.

  15. I think the public ought to be able to file no confidence letters because my wet flannel of an mp kit malthouse would never do anything except toe the party line. Doesn’t represent his constituents whatsoever.

  16. As utterly awful as he is, I do wonder if there is some merit in Johnson remaining as PM until the next general election. Aside from the fact there are seemingly zero less worse options among the senior Tories, he’s been doing a great job of ruining the party and its reputation. I’d be concerned that with him out the way, there would be a couple of years for the Tories to salvage some reputation in time for a GE. There’s a quote about not interrupting your enemy when they’re making a mistake, and if he stays it’s highly unlikely he’ll make it another 2 years without another catastrofuck that further damages his party.

  17. >”Where is the genuine alternative?”

Just let that sink in… A sexist racist homophobic pathological liar is the best they’ve got… And they *freely* admit it.

Even worse than that is that they are okay with it.

  18. Isn’t this kind of alarming?

Public money shouldn’t be allowed to be used like this. Can you even imagine when public opinion turned against Thatcher her deciding to essentially steal from the tax pot to hire expensive PRs to rehabilitate her image and place sympathy stories in the papers and news channels??

  19. Can’t believe the UK had a great British empire that took over other countries, displaced millions of people for the wealth of the UK and was one of the most powerful and prosperous states ever. Just for all of that to be eradicated in the span of 5 years by this 1 idiot.

    Good job UK

  20. What’s that then? The third time this year?Teflon Boris just doesn’t give a fuck. He’ll just refuse to step down, and my mum will tell me why I shouldn’t care it.

  21. If anything this whole debacle has shown is that “convention” is fucking worthless.

There needs to be real law/rules with legal consequences for MPs who are dishonest/corrupt/break the law.

He has spent the last two years habitually lying through his teeth, yet because his tories are just as feckless and corrupt as he is they let him get on with it.
