New travel rule: Non-EU citizens will have to pay a fee next year

  1. This sounds like a money making exercise or are people going to tick a box saying, “I am a terrorist”.

Who are the criminals this is expecting to stop? How will it stop them?

  2. Good thing I read the article before I reacted. I panicked thinking it will affect my Schengen visa application for next year. Traveling these days are such a pain 💀

  3. In the US just to get into New York City, it costs $16, just to get it – one city seems like a good deal to access whole continent

  4. Hopefully it is a lot smoother than I anticipate.

Like pay your Euros, process within a day or two, get an electronic confirmation scannable with QR, and that’s that. Even better if I can carry it on my phone like I do with boarding passes and Covid passes.

  5. The title of this post isn’t correct. To be fair, neither is the title or second sentence of the linked article. This doesn’t apply to non-EU citizens but as it states later on it applies to “people who do not live permanently in an EU country or don’t need a visa to stay in one.”

  6. That’s silly. As a revenue stream, 7€/traveler is insignificant but psychologically, it’s very different from 0.

  7. Just a clarification:

ETIAS (and the 7 EUR fee) will be required to enter *Schengen + EU, except Ireland.* So, that includes non-Schengen EU members (except Ireland).
