“The community trusts the chairman and we do not foresee any sudden changes, at least for now,” Sinkevičius told the news agency ELTA on Tuesday.

He said a meeting of the party’s board was planned for 23 February long ago and the issue would be discussed but nobody wants to make hasty decisions.

Sinkevičius said Democrats For Lithuania do not tolerate corruption, yet he pointed out that no allegations were made against Skvernelis.

According to the MEP, the situation pains Skvernelis more than the party as he has always cared about his reputation.

As reported, conducting a probe into large-scale corruption, the Special Investigation Service (STT) searched parliamentary offices and homes of MP Saulius Skvernelis, leader of Democrats For Lithuania, and MP Kazys Starkevičius, member of the Homeland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democrats (TS-LKD).

Law enforcement is investigating large-scale corruption and these raids were carried out to check whether corruption might have been related to political favouritism.

Both lawmakers will be interviewed as special witnesses.

Skvernelis later told reporters that he was not worried as he had not committed any crime. Whereas Starkevičius suspended his membership in TS-LKD.

In December 2025, 13 people were detained and 6 of them arrested for 1–2 months in the probe into large-scale corruption at the State Plant Service.

Based on the investigation, companies transporting plants and plant products might have paid large bribes to obtain phytosanitary certificates. It is suspected that EUR 1.5 million in bribes might have been paid.

More than 100 searches led to the seizure of over EUR 1.3 million in cash, around 8 kilogrammes of gold worth roughly EUR 1 million, thousands of packs of cigarettes, tens of thousands of litres of alcohol, as well as cocaine and explosives.
