If Raab had said this six months ago I would find it very commendable. Right now I see this as nothing more than damage control. Fabricant did this last month also while stating benefits are too low. All I thought was they know there is an election loaming, and they wish to remove some of the stains accumulated while in power.
Hes saying what he thinks sounds nice and wholesome in a headline.
They don’t give a shit about children who are in poverty because children in poverty have poor parents and these are ghastly poor people in their 20s 30s and early 40s who are unlikely to vote blue.
Absolutely everything goes back to this. The less likely your demographic is to be in their support base the more they will fuck you up and make your existence hard and I’m afraid children in poor families are extremely far down the Tory list of giving a shit because they will most likely just grow up to be yucky red voters anyway. So fuck them.
This is unironically the mindset of this government in regards to the demographic groups of the UK and who gets help and who gets punishment. They’ve made this pretty clear.
Reminds me of Margaret Thatcher who felt sorry for the families of striking miners. After the Tories took the NUM to court and had their financial assets frozen.
The man has no heart to break.
Maybe everyone in the cabinet should give up their expenses and put the money towards school meals.
British politician equivalent of “thoughts and prayers”
And maybe breeders should stop having as many kids and expecting the rest of us to feed them
damn if only he was in power like us oh well
sigh
He was misquoted, his heart is breaking because all kids aren’t in poverty, sorry for the miscommunication!
You now he does not want to do anything to stop child poverty, I know and he knows it too. There are still plenty of people out there who either believe this tripe or who are content with the idea of these children’s parents not being given free food. This is all just pantomime, he is saying it because he knows this is supposed to be his response to the crisis. If he actually wanted to do something then he would have announced measures in the same speech.
I may be wrong but I have a sneaking suspicion that his heart remains perfectly unaffected by child poverty.
“look, I’ve got kids”
(Yeah i would be upset about this if it affected my kids but thank god it doesn’t.)
