Lithuania Allocates 189 Million Euros for Defense and Drone Production in 2026

As reported by Delfi

According to Kaunas, Lithuania plans to use €189 million from the SAFE fund (Security Action for Europe) to implement its defense plans.

The funds are also allocated for counter-mobility measures – €112 million, for engineering measures – €83 million, and for surveillance systems – €85 million.

According to Kaunas, after Lithuania’s withdrawal from the Ottawa Convention, negotiations are underway with Ukraine and Poland regarding joint production of anti-personnel mines.

According to him, as of January 1, Lithuania’s restrictions on border logging have entered into force. At the same time, there are plans to restore swampy areas as a natural barrier to the movement of enemy equipment.

Prospects for defense policy and drone production

In 2026, Lithuania also plans to begin producing sea drones. Kaunas noted that Lithuania could locally produce sea drones to meet both its own and Ukrainian needs.

“It is important to understand that drones are a technology that cannot be purchased in tens of thousands for stockpiles, because they simply become obsolete. Therefore we are moving toward having a certain number, but first and foremost we are focusing on production lines in Lithuania, so that in the event of a crisis we could quickly develop our own drone capabilities.”

In addition, Lithuania continues to periodically support Ukraine under the Radarom! campaign, aimed at raising funds to supply drones and counter-drone systems.
