This week is the anniversary of the beginning of the 1798 rebellion. Outfit I made inspired by Henry Joy McCracken

  1. theres a model shop in dublin where you can get replica muskets ordered in, i got myself a replica dueling pistol from the 1830s there, good quality too, not sure on you’re allowed to carry them in public but for fancy dress parties it’d be quite good, think they were between €80-€130 (for musket, pistol was cheaper but im not sure on its price) if i remember correctly. could go well with the costume

  2. I stumbled upon a memory box in my basement today that has been in my family for quite sometime.
It belonged to Geraldine Plunkett Dillon. She was a member of the Cumann na mBan (Irish womens council) and sister of Joseph Mary Plunkett. The box was brought to Canada in the early 1900s when my family immigrated.
I’m not sure if it warrants its own post. And I would hate to butcher its history (as I don’t know much more than what the box contains).
The box contains some personal bibles and a hand written letter. I figured I’d share here and feed off your passion for Irish history. I’d be happy to share photos with anyone interested in reading the letter. If anyone is knowledgeable in Irish history, please PM me.
