[Hospital unions are threatening to strike](https://www.levif.be/actualite/belgique/preavis-de-greve-dans-plusieurs-hopitaux-wallons/article-news-1492659.html) over the threat to sack them from next year if they haven’t been jabbed. With [20% of Brussels hospital workers unvaccinated](https://www.levif.be/actualite/sante/obligation-vaccinale-26-6-des-professionnels-de-la-sante-bruxellois-ne-sont-pas-vaccines/article-normal-1492589.html), I can’t help but think this is a suicidal policy. There’s already a bad shortage of staff and this will make things worse. It’s also blackmail. Many will refuse to give in. Bad decision. U-turn required.

Not only this, but many will just not care enough.
They get suspended, but keep their salary (this was in the HLN article from early this week). If they don’t get jabbed after their suspension, they get fired with “behouden van rechten en uitkering”, meaning they still get their unemployment paid out from RVA and their severance pay.
On the other hand, its a good thing, because the rotten apples will either be vaccinated, or find work in another sector.
They should not be suspended.
They should be fired and blacklisted from working in healthcare in the near future.
Why should people that don’t believe in medical science, even be employed in that field? How is it blackmail to prevent them from making people ill?
If anything, we’re being to lenient towards antivaxxers. They should be fired for gross incompetence instead of getting extra protection.
At the same time, they should start giving the lower wage brackets sizeable wage increases, to replace the idiots they fired with competent people.
How much support do the unions have for striking for this reason. There are those unvaccinated and will not comply even now its mandatory , which is a rather small group. Those that are vaccinated or will get vaccinated now, but don’t agree on the firing of colleagues. And then I think there is a quite large group (I think) that want the unvaxxinated out of the hospitals and retirement homes.
