What do you mean people won’t work unsociable hours for poor pay?!
So you’re saying they might let me work in a pub? Updating my CV now.
Have they tried paying more to attract the necessary talent? Might save them money in the long run due to the “…increase in errors, accidents or claims, turnaround times, wastages, employee grievances and disciplinary issues.”
Hospitality sector will be asking for day release from prisons soon.
Self service pubs are the future. Honour system lads, one pint at a time and no sneaking pringles
Or, and hear me out on this one, it might sound like a radical new idea, offer a fair living wage to attract better staff.
As an aside, if a pub cannot offering a living wage to staff, the business is going to fail.
Covid subsidies and grants kept zombie business owners floating for 2 years. Time to let them close.
The industry which lobbies against improved worker rights is now taxpayer handout dependent. Adrian Cummins expecting to government to pay them for hiring Ukrainians is just proof that chuncks of the industry needs to abuse either cheap workers or taxpayers to be profitable.
I
They need to pay more.
That’s it, there is no other solution. Pubs don’t have a right to cheap labour in a capitalist economy. Demanding that Ukranian refugees be used as a solution to their staffing issues is appalling.
If the cost of paying staff more makes your business unviable that’s unfortunate but that’s how capitalism works. I’m as far from a Randian as you can get but I acknowledge we live in a capitalist society so you have to play the cards you’re dealt.
Too many employers only want capitalism to work in their favour and cry foul when the advantage is with the employees.
The pay is the issue 😄 I would enjoy working in a pub , but I highly doubt any pub in Ireland would match my current salary. Never had any issues with customers/guests with 10+ years customer focused jobs. Organisational work etc. But I doubt any pub will pay me 28 quid an hour
Obviously this is not the most important issue by far but most restaurants could do with cutting down their menus
You know there are many people in society currently looking for work but as they have a physically disability they are never even considered, actually many of the pubs don’t even want them as customer’s …… need the toilet? just go across the road or somewhere.
Rather than treat staff better and pay them better the solution is, let us abuse vulnerable people who just fled from a war zone.
By behavioural problems do they just mean rude? Like basil fawlty? Still people need proper pay and a place to actually live.
Ah no don’t cut food from menus! Sure how can I expect to choose between a roast, Chinese, Thai food, Italian or steak _before_ I choose a restaurant? I need them all in the same place!
I see lots of mentions of increasing wages which is right and proper but has anyone considered rephrasing this to providing housing both renting and ownership at affordable rates?
I dont know how you can afford to rent/live in Dublin on 40k nevermind minimum wage.
Why would I work in hospitality in Dublin or Cork for close on minimum wage with less than ideal conditions such as split shifts, late hours and no guarantee of full time hours with the price of rent as it is at the moment?
Who in their right mind would travel from Kildare or Meath for the same?
Where is the quality of life?
Pay people more. Come work shite hours for minimum wage in the middle of Dublin city centre….of course they have staff shortages
