Is it me or is the local butcher getting expensive? Look at those price/kg’s…Getting difficult to support local business.

  1. Yeah I’ve noticed the same. I can understand that good meat costs money, but it’s just not doable anymore when a simple (not chateaubriand or anything like that) steak costs upwards of 40 €/kg. Supporting the supermarkets instead is bad, but it’s literally less than half the price for worse but still okay quality.

  2. Honestly meat should be a lot more expensive than it often is. I’m not saying these specific prices are warranted but people should really know the true cost of cheap meat, like terrible conditions for the animals

  3. That’s kinda crazy. I’d love to also support local people more, but i mean, delhaize has just as passable stuff, often for less.

  4. Good. Meat isn’t nearly expensive enough (and I say that as a meat-eater/veggie-hater) for what it’s really worth. Crybabies all of us. Let’s consider ourselves lucky to have been spoilt for all these years. At some point we gotta back down to Earth.

  5. 32,95 for kippewit is rediculous.
Go buy a kg of chicken filet and it will cost you hardly anything compared to that price. Also don’t forget the prices the butchers pay are less than we pay in the supermarket. I would buy somewhere else tbh. Yes everything gets more expensive but this doesn’t add up

  6. As someone else commented; meat should be more expensive than what it is nowadays.

I’m not vegan, not even vegetarian, but I cut down my meat consumption a lot and when I buy it, I’ll go to the expensive butcher. We need to understand it is a form of luxury.

  7. I agree. I just stopped going to the local butcher and bakery and buy everything in a supermarket. I feel bad about not supporting the local businesses and the stuff from the supermarket isn’t *quite* as good, but the price differences are just too big.

  8. Well, a business that needs massive amounts of electricity for cooling is going to up their prices when electricity goes up

  9. Meat should be significantly more expensive, we got used to heavily subsidised, imported and animal abuse based meat. I just wish that the governments would remove the silly import/export subsidies and ban the heavy duty animal industry, this will upset a lot of people (tough, get over it) but it’ll be better for our health, environment and the animals themselves.

Eating a piece of meat once a day was considered already a luxury, not that long ago….. and these days we have tons of good meat alternatives (that in some cases, taste better than the afore mentioned “shitty/cheap” meat).

  10. It is a keurslager as well. These type of butchers are in general more expensive than butchers who are not with that label.

  11. If you keep spending money like that, it’s no wonder that it’s getting expensive!

Spoiler alert: >!It’s only going to get MUCH more expensive.!<

  12. Everything is getting more expensive. I work in a frituur and the prices there have gone up too. If we don’t raise our prices we don’t make any money

  13. Garnaalsla is altijd vies duur, de boereham en kippewit is ook heel duur daar precies, boereham is mss ambachtelijk? De natuurham en prepare is wel normale prijs voor een slagerij. (Ik werk zelf in een ambachtelijke slagerij)

  14. I’d be happy if meat cost 10x what it does now

It’s absolutely *insane* how low the prices in the supermarket are and there is **no way** the animals can be kept in acceptable conditions when it’s a race to the bottom in terms of price.

I feel you, but perhaps eat meat 1 time less per week and keep supporting both the local business and enabling farmers to (hopefully) also get a fair cut.

  15. Yep noticed the same…
Exact same order with 2 weeks in between.
    1st time 14,50€ and now it’s 20,30€…..

  16. I feel that every business is using the inflation (8-9%) as an excuse to increase the prices 20% or even way more. We worden allemaal in ons gat genaaid, da’s wat ik denk

  17. I hardly call “De Keurslager” local. Any store part of a chain isn’t local at all.
    Local farmers/butchers should be supported.

  18. Chicken filet has a notoriously wide price range. It’s the easiest animal to industrialize, so a chicken in a box and a free range chicken that eats organic are obviously very different.

  19. A simple bread is 2.90€ in our local store now. Not happy with inflation, nor the businesses that try to take advantage of it. Not going to buy there anymore.

  20. (grijze) garnaalsalade kost altijd veel en ham kost toch altijd minstens 20 EUR/kg

Dat kippewit zier er duur uit

  21. The people in this thread being all like “good, meat should be more expensive” are doing a stellar miss of the point.

Everything, absolutely everything is going up and it has nothing to do with meat at all.

  22. At this point ( and already for some years) shopping is a political decision. Every Cent spent is philosophical act.

You can pay more for locally sourced goods or support individual shops, use independent service providers..

.. Or you can pay less to multinational organisations, institutions that promote neo capitalism and further the destruction of everything and make local shops and services unaffordable.

Ofc… this only applies if you are able to choose, which is a luxury most people can’t afford in the first place.
