Not just because of the location of Iceland but because I usually receive food when I visit others in Switzerland. (Maybe it’s just the area)
Well, it depends on what you are invited for or how spontaneously you invited yourself. 😁
I think the no food thing is a Swede thing, I have been to Finland and I brought wine but they had all the food, same for Netherland and Switzerland
FYI since there is no original sauce or study for this it’s most likely fake
I think, at a minimum, there would be apero type light food served. Even a random person that drops by would at least get some cheese offering.
Not true, i swiped over an ukrainian guys face and he didnt give me more info
Correction* in Portugal is mandatory!
And you as a guest should eat it all! Otherwise you are considered a bad educated person.
Thank you for your attention
I don’t agree whit this map. Clients offers me normally coffee and biscuits or something else. Friends always
In Austria it is tradition to offer coffee and cake (if there is any in the house). So, no, it’s not “unlikely”.

Iceland got closer to the mainland.
Anecdotally it matches my experiences and my prejudices. So it’s probably “the truth” ^((TM)).
Nordic countries are being dragged on TikToc about this.
I will not visit a person that will not give me food.
We give beverage (coffee, tea, etc) but not food.
What surprises me is people believing the shit that gets posted here. Embarassing
Sorry to be off topic, but we need a separate color for Eastern Europe for “will force food down your throat”
It‘s always been „wotsch öppis trinke?“ and almost never „häsch Hunger?“ in the 33 years I grew up in this country.
A few years ago I was dating a girl, every time she came to my house I cooked something and we ate together.
Every time she invited me to her house she cooked something and she ate it while I watched.
The difference between me and her is that this girl was Swiss and I am from a southern European country. 100% agree with the map.
Im Russian, and we usually will nearly insist anyone that comes to have a snack or eat with us. Now that i moved here, i took that with me and its quite funny to see people get surprised or confused that i’d propose them food.
Generally spoken you get at least something to drink, but in case of bbq even when invited: * bring your own meat!* The prices for meat are outrageoous tbh
ITT mad Swiss people denying their own “culture”. Absolutely normal to visit a Swiss family and watch them eat while you sit there hungry and dont get shit.
Shoutout to my African, Latin American and Asian asian friends who always fed me no matter what. Without foreigners Switzerland would be a cold place. I don’t know why people are in here acting like the Swiss are generous with food because they will hardly share their cervelas salad unless they have planned for it weeks in advance.
I dont know if this is true. Ive gotten a lot of food as a guest and we gave guests food too. But maybe thats only me.
Switzerland: bring food or piss off 😁
This is ridiculous, it’s only that in red/pink countries you know in advance that you will receive or not receive food, because people are organized enough that they will tell you at the invitation if it’s to eat or not. In blue countries they will force feed you even if you just pass by to say hello 😂
Unfortunately it’s true. More than just ones I was invited at a party around 6pm and there was only chips and maybe some vegetable with souse. Hey, if you invite me around dinner time I expect more than just finger food.
What is the real source of this survey?
Ticino should be light blue, most people would agree: to offer something to drink and maybe eat is the norm. But what’s with people coming over EMPTY HANDED, that’s also fucking rude.
One funny anectode:
My Croatian family always used to shove food down the throat of our guests. Simultaneously, it is considered good manners to always refuse offered food at least a couple of times before finally accepting (to not seem greedy i guess).
So my parents, on one hand, could not believe that I was sent away, when my friends from school had dinner with their families. On the other hand, they would throw shade on guests at our house, when they would eagerly accept the food offered too quickly. «Poor kid, his parents must starve him», they used to say lol.
I am from Austria and I can confirm. Standard offer is coffee or an alcoholic beverage
There’s always Zweifel.
Don’t get this. I almost never invite/get invited without a dish.
Lmao, when I saw this map yesterday it reminded me of when my wife and I visited a colleague of mine at their home because we happened to be in the area. The wife said: “Ich wür eu öpis abüte aber mir händ grad nüt wo offe isch.” This was years ago and my wife and I still use that phrase to fuck with guests who visit us.
as a secondo, when visiting a friend back in my childhood, their parents deadass said “mir ässe jetzt, wennde willsch chasch im zimmer vom robin warte”

yeah sure. never went there again lmao. meanwhile my parents always gave them food if i had friends visiting. worst part is, all of them were literally millionaires, while we were deadpoor lmao.
Well this map has to be interpreted carefully. the difference is that in southern countries people come over JUST to eat. In Italy you always plan to eat together, therefore you obviously eat most of the time you are invited because they have a more elaborate dining culture.
We in Switzerland shovel in a Döner before going out at night while Italians meet at a friends house to eat some food. It is even expected that people are well feed before going out. at least that is what my circle of friends does.
