Approval has been granted for a Coventry Iceland store to be demolished. Plans are in place to redevelop the site on Binley Road.

Part of the redevelopment will include a new car parking area for the nearby Lidl. It will also enable a better configuration of the adjacent 93-space parking facility, according to Coventry City Council.

Council approval for the plans was granted on Tuesday, February 10, paving the way for Iceland to be bulldozed. Work is scheduled to begin in April and is expected to be completed by June.

Measures to control dust and dirt emissions must be submitted to Coventry City Council before the building is demolished. Details should include the location of the jet wash and methods for preventing silt and water runoff from entering the drainage system on Binley Road.

Hygiene issues have long plagued the Binley Road Iceland, as reported by CoventryLive. Rats were discovered in the building, along with contaminated food items being sold.

After receiving a one-star hygiene rating in June 2025, it has now regained the highest rating from the Food Standards Agency. Details regarding the reasons for the planned demolition of Iceland have not been shared.
