  1. Companies that own more than one house should pay exponentially more in taxes than an independent home owner. A basic need like housing should be protected. It should be regulated to become financially unviable. someone who rents out 10 homes is NOT good for the economy. Normal people cant compete with bids from big investors with more available capital. Renting out houses barely creates any jobs and burdens society. on the long run renting is financially retarded. Imo a company should not be able to own independent houses meant for individuals to live in.

  3. A bit unrelated, but this in Ghent seemed like a great increase in suplly for well-connected housing in a city, exacly the kind that’s good for environnement (encouraging use of public transport, high density)

    I hate that neighbourhood people claim this isn’t good for “their” environnement because it takes away open space from where they live (which is currently a giant slab of concrete that wil otherwise be filled with low-density housing)

  4. The reason why ‘But the housing prices will drop because regular people can’t buy anymore’ is simply, and alas, not true.

    We should ban those companies.

  5. Couple of years ago: nice apartments are one of the few places big investors haven’t touched yet and made prices go crazy.

    Today: oh well, time to ask my local grocery store for a big carton box to live in.

  6. In 2022 in America, 25% & in some states 40% house purchases were not made by individuals but by corporations. At the moment this didn’t affect rental prices yet. Of course these companies are in it for the long haul, not ever selling and only trying to push up rental prices slowly but steadily.

  8. Next step: companies getting majority shares in buildings with existing owners, forcing people to sell because they vote against everything, and then they can just fire the syndicus and rule over the whole thing.

    We need protection against these practices fast.
