LANSING, Mich. (WJRT) – Governor Gretchen Whitmer has traveled to Germany with the intention of enhancing Michigan’s defense industry and attracting fresh international investments. During this trip, the RENK Group unveiled an expansion plan that includes a $70 million investment, which is anticipated to generate 300 new jobs in Michigan. The plan designates $100 million for research and development in the state by 2030.
While in Germany, Governor Whitmer will engage with various business executives and security leaders. Her mission focuses on fostering stronger international relationships and drawing in additional investments and employment opportunities for Michigan. Since 2019, over 64 investment projects from German companies have already established a presence in the state.
Joined by high-ranking military officials, including U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Paul D. Rogers and Col. John T. Gutierrez, Whitmer will participate in the Munich Security Conference to discuss Michigan’s contributions to supporting national and allied defense initiatives.
