Ukrainian writer, volunteer, and serviceman Andriy Lyubka became a laureate of a joint award of the Poland–Lithuania Forum for Cooperation and Dialogue and the Jerzy Giedroyc Forum in Vilnius.

The information about this was posted on the forums’ official page on social media, where they report the jury’s decision and the award’s significance for regional culture and dialogue between the countries.

The award ceremony was held at the Royal Castle in Warsaw. Andriy Lyubka himself could not attend the event in person, but he prepared a moving letter that those present greeted with standing ovations.

Our thoughts are with Andriy, and we wish him the strength of body and spirit in the challenges ahead in his new role – a soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

About the laureate and the meaning of the award

Together with Lyubka, the Belarusian historian Alexander Smalyanchuk was also honored.

The Poland–Lithuania Forum named after Jerzy Giedroyc aims to deepen contacts and cultural exchange between the two countries. The awards have been presented since 2013, and laureates are encouraged for exceptional contributions to political, cultural, scientific, and social relations in the region. The awards are given to figures in five categories: history, culture, media, public administration, and economy.

Among previous laureates are Serhiy Zhadan (2022), as well as then Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, military chaplain Serhiy Dmitriev, and historian Natalia Yakovenko.

According to sources, in January 2026 Andriy Lyubka announced his decision to mobilize into the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, underscoring his active participation in the civic and national life of the country.

The award underscores the mutually beneficial impact of Ukrainian creative figures on the region’s cultural space and the strengthening of friendly ties between Poland and Lithuania.

Lyubka’s participation in these prestigious events highlights his balance between literary work and socially important processes, especially in the context of war and national security.
