It’s getting bad again yet no one seems to be talking about it.

  1. Stick to green until it goes below €1.50. The government won’t do anything about prices when they’re making so much money off the VAT.

  2. I say we are all getting sick of talking about it tbh.

Been going on for months now. Government helped a bit but that got wiped out with the latest increases.

Unfortunately not a lot we can do

  3. This isn’t an Irish thing. I was in Bosnia last week and their unleaded was €1.80, a country with an average monthly wage of €800.

  4. I actually thought diesel was on the way down. Been around 193 for the past few days when previously it was 197.

I saw 188 in Dundrum the other day and almost crashed.

  5. Yes, apart from all the radio, television, newspaper and social media pieces, nobody is talking about it.

  6. After all those years of meatheads complaining that electric cars weren’t worth it, finally the semi-free market has provided.

  7. That’s not a bad thing though.

It is painful in the short term. But it’s totally necessary. So on the whole, it’s a good thing.

Look, we’ve just got to stop burning oil (and coal, and gas, and peat). It’s that simple. We might not like it, but the laws of physics are just plain rude like that, and they don’t care about our feelings.

  8. Germany did the right thing, they made public transport a viable option (low cost and it is actually somewhat reliable) and then they knocked 30 cent/liter off of the cost of fuel… They have less taxes in German on fuel (source is a German friend of mine, maybe wrong, not too sure) and were able to cut 30 cent, meanwhile we have more tax on it and the government, with all their power, gave 20 cent off.

    Edit: fixed typo

  9. Did it get any better? I didn’t notice. 10c reduction in government levy, tax still accounts for 66% of what we pay.

  10. Ans of course its the government’s fault and not the petrol companies that fill their pockets more than ever…

  11. The issue here is the lack of infrastructure and public transport in this country, especially in more rural parts. The government have left a massive portion of the country with no option but to rely on vehicle usage.

  12. I watched a video on from a popular youtube content creator who did a nice analysis by looking at taxes, cost at pump, cost per barrel, transportation, refining, etc. The very oversimplified summary is that its the oil companies to blame.. they have realised that oil use is declining and is on its way out, so they are cashing in and making as much profit as they can now.

  13. You…do know that the EU recently signed a deal to ban Russian Oil imports right? Energy prices are going to skyrocket unfortunately

  14. This is all the more reason to

    1. push for renewables and
    2. electrify our transportation system and
    3. push for work from home.

First two will leave us less exposed to supply shocks in the long term and the third will reduce us usage in the short term, although I doubt the government will pursue this options in any meaningful manner.

  15. OP we on Reddit are all very rich. Such prices don’t effect us. Hence we don’t talk about it.

No excuse me while I wipe my arse on the Turin Shroud.

  16. It’s madddness the price of petrol and diesel is pushing people just on the poverty line below it even further
