ROCHESTER, Minn. — Firefighters responded to a blaze at a home in the 500 block of 8th Street Northwest on Saturday.
The Rochester Fire Department (RFD) says smoke and flames were visible from the back of the house, but no occupants were home at the time.
Fire crews arrived just after 5:30 pm and extinguished the blaze, which originated in the kitchen. They conducted a thorough search of the three-story home and successfully rescued a dog, the only living being found inside. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.
RFD says significant smoke damage affected the entire structure, while the kitchen suffered extensive fire damage. Firefighters secured power and natural gas to prevent further hazards and ventilated the home to clear smoke and toxic gases.
The Rochester Police Department, Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service, Rochester Fire Marshals Division, Minnesota Energy, Rochester Public Utilities, and the American Red Cross assisted at the scene.
