It comes after President Donald Trump made clear his public desire to buy the region.

Greenland is controlled by Denmark – who were the US team’s opponent for Saturday’s game.

Trump’s plans threatened to strain relations between the US and Europe.

The President claimed that controlling Greenland was vital to national security.

WINTER BLUNDERLAND

BBC apologises for ‘terrible’ blunder in GB’s Winter Olympic gold win

Trump recently insisted he will not “use force” to acquire Greenland but threatened allies who opposed his plan with tariffs.

Vice President JD Vance attended the Winter Olympics opening ceremony in Milan on February 6.

He was booed as he was shown on the big screen at the iconic San Siro Stadium.

Vance has warned athletes to stick to sport and not make political statements during the Winter Olympics.

“Yes, you’re going to have some Olympic athletes who pop off about politics,” Vance said, per CNN.

“I feel like that happens every Olympics.

“My advice to them would be to try to bring the country together, and when you’re representing the country, you’re representing Democrats and Republicans.

“You’re there to play a sport, and you’re there to represent your country and hopefully win a medal.

“You’re not there to pop off about politics.”

“Most Olympic athletes, whatever their politics, are doing a great job,” he added.

“Certainly enjoy the support of the entire country, and I think recognize that the way to bring the country together is not to show up in a foreign country and attack the President of the United States.

“But it’s to play your sport and to represent the country well.”
