President Trump is looking at how artificial intelligence is affecting jobs and the economy, according to top White House advisor Peter Navarro. One potential action would be to force big tech to shoulder the burden AI is putting on the nation’s power grid.

AI is “right on the president’s desk and on his radar,” Navarro told Fox’s Sunday Morning Futures.

“All of these data center builders, Meta on down, need to pay for all, all of the costs,” Navarro told the show, referencing the parent of Facebook and Instagram, which is planning to spend a projected $135 billion on AI projects this year.

“They need to pay — not only pay for the electricity that they’re using on the grid,” Navarro said, “But they have to pay for the resiliency that they’re affecting as well. They need to pay for the water. So there’s activity, action here going forward where we force them to internalize the costs.”
