Myprotein range in Iceland

I was really shocked at one product from the MyProtein range (Image: Rebecca Koncienzcy)

So I am not a fitness girlie, and when I see the Myprotein range in stores, I don’t think it is for me. But after tasting their frozen eggs, I know I am wrong; I am a Myprotein girl and there is no going back.

I had the chance to test some of the new products now available in the freezers at Iceland, and there really are some delicious offerings here that are worth having in your own freezers. If you are watching your macros or just want a more filling meal, protein-dense meals are proven to keep you feeling fuller for longer. Having some of these ready meals stashed away could save you time when you don’t have time to prepare anything fresh.

Here are the products I tried, rated from worst to best, and there are some here I would certainly eat again.

Myprotein 350g Naked Cheesy Chicken Fajita, £4 (3 for £10)

Overall this was bland, which is a shame because you can taste a hint of spice. The chicken pieces are decent, and the cheese helps make it filling, but this was the only one I tried that I wouldn’t get again. 5/10

Myprotein 120g Cookie Crunch Layered Ice Cream Bar, £4

So I was really impressed with the Myprotein desserts. It is something I had not considered when thinking about protein goals, counting your puddings. The Cookie Crunch bar was a nice sweet hit, but the cookie pieces made them seem a bit dry, and I thought the chocolate covering could have been thicker, but then you bump up the calories, so I understand why it is thin.

But these had a nice creamy flavour and even my ice cream fanatic husband gave them a thumbs up. 7/10

Myprotein 550g Creamy Chicken Alfredo, £4.75 (2 for £8.50)

I was worried as during cooking it looked watery. But the sauce did thicken and it was nice and cheesy.

This was decent, it could have done with more seasoning in general, and not just salt, it needed something like tarragon and the garlic could have been stronger for my liking.

There is a good amount of chicken, and that is something I always find with the Myprotein meals; they are always generous with the meat. Although I did think the chicken was a little bland and almost like Quorn, but I like Quorn, so that was fine with me.

Overall, I would be very happy and satisfied if I had this for lunch. 7/10

Myprotein 350g Mexican Style Chilli Beef with Rice, £4 (3 for £10)

I really liked this, but it is definitely not a ‘three chilli peppers’ spice level, it was way milder.

The beef was of good texture, and there was a good amount of cheese. But I couldn’t get away from how it would be good on a tortilla as a burrito. 8/10

Myprotein 120g Salted Caramel Layered Ice Cream Bar, £4

Just like the Cookie Crunch, I was really impressed with this. These ones were creamier and more like regular ice cream than the cookie ones, and I like the little bit of salt coming from the caramel.

You could eat this and forget you were tracking your protein and surely that is the idea? I do think they are a little expensive for three of them, because they are small. But then I look around the shops now and think everything is expensive. 8/10

Myprotein 450g Chicken Tikka Balti Bowl, £4.75 (2 for £8.50)

This has a really great flavour. There is a lovely sweetness and a good spice kick. The chicken is well seasoned and all the veggies are really nice.

The rice cooks well but the tortilla bowl does go soggy at the bottom during cooking. Now, I don’t mind that texture, and it is as if the tortilla has soaked up all the sauce, which is delicious, but I can see some people being disappointed. I would eat this again. 8/10

Myprotein 2 Pack Cheese & Ham Omelettes, £3

These made me nervous because they were just naked in the box. They were just there, frozen eggs; it seemed odd, but I should have had more faith.

Mine came out of the air fryer a little brown because I forgot to turn them over halfway through cooking. But these were excellent and such a revelation to me. Just a really good, fluffy omelette and with a sprinkle of salt, totally moreish. My only issue is that it could have had more ham. Would recommend. 9/10

Myprotein 2 Pack Four Cheese Omelettes, £3

And if you thought Myprotein was going to escape without a perfect score, you clearly have not tried the cheese omelettes.

Again, I was in shock at how amazing these were, a marvel of modern frozen food for me and would make people’s lives so much easier, as it is hard to make a perfect fluffy omelette every time.

Beautifully cheesy and so easy to make, if you are looking for a simple breakfast, this is it. 10/10
