Rain will continue in mainland Portugal until Thursday, 19 February, mainly in the north and central regions, but nothing too serious, according to meteorologist Cristina Simões, adding that the next weekend will be sunny.

“We will continue with precipitation in the northern and central regions. It is not a very serious situation; however, there will always be some precipitation. Some frontal surfaces will pass through, mainly affecting the north and centre. The southern region is more protected by the anticyclone, which is already closer to the mainland,” Cristina Simões told Lusa.

According to the meteorologist from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), periods of rain are expected today, especially in the northern and central regions, and weak to moderate westerly winds, sometimes strong in the highlands.

“On Wednesday [18 February], the frontal surface will move from north to south, reaching the Alentejo region with periods of light rain, but always more intense in the Minho and Douro coastal areas. As it moves south, it will lose activity, with light rain,” she said.

According to Cristina Simões, this rainy and shower situation will continue until Thursday, which could include snow in the Serra da Estrela.

“It seems to us that from the 20 February [Friday] onwards, there should be no more precipitation. We will have a prolonged period without precipitation. Next weekend will already have sunny days without rain,” she added.
