Could it have helped to revive the city after the loss of the steel industry, maybe it could. I mean, Limburg got several investment subsidies too after the coal industry stopped. Every city got something somewhere.
Would have been nice too if there was a metro to the airport from the train station. (not sure it it was planned in de 80s.
In 1990, RTBF had a segment called “Journal des travaux inutiles” where they visited some unfinished projects where (IIRC) public money was wasted.
