Belarus intends to work very seriously in the Board of Peace, and Aleksandr Lukashenko plans to discuss the activity of this structure with Russian President Vladimir Putin – as noted by the Belarusian leader, Aleksandr Lukashenko, during his today’s meeting with State Secretary of the Union State Sergei Glazyev

As noted by the Head of State, Belarus has accepted the invitation to join the Board of Peace since the republic is located in the centre of Europe and security issues on the continent are extremely important to it. In addition, the President shared his opinion that Russia will join the structure if it proves effective. “If there is any effectiveness and some certainty, I am sure that Russia will be among the key states within it to solve the issues raised by the Board of Peace,” he said.

In addition, the Belarusian leader thinks that the United States may also abandon the permanent chairmanship of the Board of Peace once Donald Trump leaves his post. Meanwhile, Aleksandr Lukashenko is convinced that it is worth interacting within the Board and, as he added, he would discuss this matter with Vladimir Putin, “As for my position and Putin’s, we will definitely discuss this issue with President Putin. Maybe this will happen during the Supreme State Council meeting, or while negotiating in the twenty-four hours after it – we will definitely touch upon this issue. We will discuss our positions, our points of view. Maybe my position will change in some way on hearing Vladimir Vladimirovich’s argument, or maybe he will hear something new from me. Anyway, we will definitely discuss this issue. In general, we intend to very seriously work in the Board of Peace – not to flatter someone but to adhere to our own, sovereign, position. Naturally, this position will be the common one of Russia and Belarus. We will work out this position because we have a common point of view and we are not going to step aside from the decision made with regard to the Board of Peace earlier.”
