Well we know certain groups of people were throwing parties and not wearing masks when they themselves made up the rules and never had any intention of following them. Did they take it seriously? Ask Matt and Boris. They stood in front of us every evening spewing one thing and doing something else. Good luck trying to convince people to pay up and secondly see how long that drags on for and the overall court cost trying to get that £142,000.
Thought fines went to the court?
Not really surprising. I expect there’s a strong correlation between folk who ignore a compulsory mask and folk who ignore a compulsory fine.
I hope they don’t have to pay. I hope lawyers manage to overturn all these fines. I stuck to the rules very strictly myself, always wearing a mask on the Tube, but if we’re not going to hold the people right at the top accountable, we can’t in good conscience fine people at the very bottom.
There is no greater testament to just how few fines were actually issued than that paltry £142k figure
I’m stuck between
Pay your bills you anti social wankers, TFL needs the cash.
AND
Why should anyone pay when so many have been allowed to opt out of the law?
I never actually realised they were giving out fines for this
